If the worst thing that ever happens to the Labour Party is the Sun newspaper — and we use the term loosely — abandoning it, Labour will be a very lucky party indeed.

The fact that Rupert Murdoch disapproves of you should be not so much a cross to bear as a badge of honour to be worn proudly.

It certainly won’t harm Labour in the eyes of anyone with pretensions to progressive opinions.

And in Liverpool, for example, where the shameful episode of the Sun’s reporting of the Hillsborough tragedy means that it’s still difficult to sell a copy of Murdoch’s rag, it’s doubtful that the Sun’s disapproval will cost Labour more than a handful of votes.

In 2004, Sun associate editor Graham Dudman observed accurately that “Hell will freeze over before some people change their views of the Sun.”

the recent feud between Berlusconi and Murdoch is just a turf war between two criminal gangs, which are both part of the larger crime syndicate made out of big corporations, the military-industrial complex and corrupt politicians, as for the "new" intelligence, "just emerged" about Iran, Western intelligence agencies have apparently been sitting on it for the best part of 12 months, but then again what better punchline to the bad joke which is always a G (be it 7, 8, 20 or whatever) Summit, that a new attack on Iran!

Chinese State Banks currently own more American dollars than the US Treasury... the state of the global economy is obviously very healthy, that's why Banks keep making loads of money and paying record bonuses to their employees, while scores of ordinary people are still losing their jobs and their homes...

New Bloody Sunday Enquiry Report postponed again (after decades of delays) to the middle of next year, without any reason being given, they (the powers that be) obviously think ordinary people are completely stupid, and if the release of critical and shocking information is delayed long enough, when it finally comes out, none will then pay any attention, in the same way as the Coroner inquest on Diana's death was postponed for ten years and only held due to public opinion's pressure!

I love Indymedia, I think they are doing a fantastic job, but they may want to exert a little more editorial control on their articles, I recently came across an item announcing that Lady Tatcher has just passed away in Zurich Dignitas clinic and the other day I came across 3 articles, so muddled up to be practically incomprehensible and another one rather gratuitously insulting the Police, I'm not the Police's biggest fan (apart from the pop group which, I guess was (is?) all right) but I think that this stuff is only playing in the hands of all the people who aim to discredit IM and who are probably the same people contributing this kind of stuff...

The number of former British servicemen in prison or on probation or parole is more than double the total UK deployment in Afghanistan.

The number of convicted British veterans is more than double the total UK deployment in Afghanistan, with almost half of the convicts suffering from post-traumatic syndrome, a report says.

The Guardian reported on Friday that a study by probation officers' union Napo has indicated that some 20,000 veterans are in the criminal justice system, with 8,500 others behind bars.

The proportion of Britain's prison population who are veterans has risen by more than 30% over the past five years, according to the report.

The survey of 90 cases of convicted veterans found that nearly half of them suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or depression, resulting from their experiences in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

They are most likely to have been convicted of a violent offence, particularly domestic violence, the paper said.

The study provides evidence of a direct link between the mental health of those returning from combat zones, and chronic alcohol and drug abuse as well as domestic violence.

We have been led into two totally illegal and ruinous wars, HOW MANY PEOPLE BOTHERED TO QUESTION THEIR LIES?

Rendition is still going on! IS ANYONE ASKING ANY QUESTION?

To help to expose this crime should be a priority for all political and human rights activists, but unfortunately the great majority of them doesn't really want to know what goes on and seems only too willing to believe all the lies and the misinformation, they don't know how to deal with this relatively new and unreported political crime, they find easier to consider us, the increasing number of people who complain about the abuse and the violence they are being subjected to in ways which are always consistent and similar, they find easier to dismiss us as mentally ill, all suffering from some sort of new, still to be defined, psychiatric syndrome!

The aim is human experimentation, to try out constantly new and evolving techniques and technologies, to find out more about the working of the human mind with the exclusive purpose of controlling and manipulating people, communities, entire nations.

With 90% of the world entire wealth owned by some 1000 families and with the US using and consuming 40% of the entire world's resources, it is understandable how the military-industrial complex of the US and its closest allies is obsessed with developing constantly new weapon systems, new methods of psychological warfare, new ways of controlling, manipulating and spying on everything which takes place on the planet!

Ordinary people are told that we are psychopaths/mentally ill, the most they are told is that we are being used to gather important scientific information and that the end justifies the means.

What it is really happening, is increasing authoritarian and fascist states, obsessed with paranoia and controlling everything which takes place, looking for constantly new ways of manipulate and control their citizens, the kind of “scientific” research that one day will end up in the dustbin of history!

If you google expressions like 'organized stalking and electronic harassment', you will get tens of thousands of hits, websites, activism sites, blog posts, all written and published by the victims of this political crime, everyone saying exactly the same identical things, everyone complaining about being targeted in exactly the same identical way, they would like you to believe that we are all suffering from some kind of new psychiatric syndrome!

At the moment, after years of having been used as a guinea pigs in experiments which became over the years increasing brutal, ruthless and horrific, a full-blown campaign of psychological terrorism is under way to “dispose” of me and drive me out of the country, showing total contempt for the fact that I left Italy 21 years ago, I have never been back since and I have nowhere else to go to in the entire world.

I would like to point out that I have never committed any crime, nor hurt anyone in my entire life, I don't have a criminal record, not in Italy, nor in this country, nor have I ever been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. But the saddest thing of all to me is that many fellow human right and political activists in my native Italy first and then in this country, when I went to them for support and help over the years, they have always, somewhat incomprehensibly, chosen to look the other way and hide and abet this crime.

We live in a global culture dominated by corruption, collusion  and conniving, they got away with starting two completely illegal and ruinous wars, they got away with Rendition and with all kind of human rights abuses, they got away with passing reams and reams of fascist, illiberal, legislation, and they are totally confident they can get away with using any number of innocent citizens as guinea pigs, you are the ones who can prove them wrong and help to held these fascists, masquerading as "scientists", accountable for their crimes!

I have been subjected to this horror for decades, now a campaign is under way to drive me out of the country destitute and homeless, if I don't, at long last, get some help and support, I feel that the current situation puts my life in serious danger!

PRINCESS Diana’s death could have prompted a murder inquiry had British police made French authorities aware of a note in which she predicted she would be killed, a top lawyer claims.

Scotland Yard failed to disclose to French detectives the existence of the note, written by Diana’s divorce lawyer Lord Mishcon after a conversation with her in 1995.

Diana told him she believed there was a plot to kill her, possibly in a staged car crash.

The note said: “Efforts would be made if not to get rid of her (be it by some accident in her car such as a pre-prepared brake failure or whatever)... at least to see that she was so injured or damaged as to be declared unbalanced.”

Had French police been made aware of this note they would have been “obliged” to investigate Diana’s death in a Paris car crash in 1997 as more than a simple road accident, believes Michael Mansfield, one of the country’s foremost lawyers.

Instead, British police held on to it, only allowing it to become public knowledge years later, long after the French inquiry had wound down.

The top US commander in Afghanistan admits that the country's overuse of military force is ultimately detrimental to Washington's strategic goals.

Speaking to CBS News, in an interview to be aired on Sunday, US commander in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal said, "You know, the favorite saying…'To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.' We can't walk with only a hammer in our hands."

Many thousands of Afghan civilians have died since the 2001 US-led invasion of the country due to military operations gone wrong.

The country is also witnessing the highest level of violence since the invasion, despite the presence of over 100,000 American and NATO troops.

McChrystal, however, said "in some areas that the breadth of the violence, the geographic spread of violence, is a little more than I would have gathered."

Reports have also come out citing instances of troops intentionally targeting civilians.

The news comes as the commander has envisioned 500,000 more forces for Afghanistan and a five-year work plan.

Domestic supporters of the operations have, however, gone down to less than one in every three American, a CBS poll shows.

If you were to gather together the finest, most creative minds and ask them to come up with a plan to outsource the reconstruction of Iraq that would guarantee shoddy work, overcharges, unfinished projects and overt graft, they would probably devise a system very similar to what U.S. taxpayers have enjoyed -- to the tune of about $30 billion -- for the past three years.

In Baghdad, basics like electricity, sanitation and clean drinking water are at lower levels today than they were before the war. A poll last year found that after more than two years of work, only 30 percent of Iraqis had any idea that there was any kind of reconstruction effort at all.

Villagers along with their international and Israeli supporters started the protest after the midday prayers.

As soon as people arrived at the gate of the wall that saparte the village from its lands Israeli troops fire tear gas and rubber coated steal bullets.  

 Dozens were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation. Local sources identified those kidnapped as Asaf 25 years, Ben Robein 26 years, and local cameraman Hytham Al Khateeb. 

 The Israeli military told protesters that the three kidnapped were moved to an Israeli police station in the nearby settlement.

Other devices can painfully target the human brain, send a microwave audio signal that only one person in a crowd can hear, vibrate internal organs, and send shocks to targeted areas of the body. All of these devices exist in miniaturized, cell phone -like form. They can be activated remotely and covertly, relatively easily, according to private investigator reports and member accounts.

The military has defined these devices. Captain Paul Tyler writes: "The potential applications of artificial electromagnetic fields are wide ranging .. In all of these cases the EM systems would be used to produce mild to severe physiological disruption or perceptual distortion or disorientation.". Unwitting EM assault victims report frightening, and sometimes traumatizing experiences. Once targeted by these rogue elements, assault experiences continue for years without end. I learned a few days ago that the 3000-strong Italian contingent stationed in North Afghanistan has basically being buying "peace" from the Local Taliban by just paying them a few thousand dollars, later we learned that the US and the British are buying off large number of "Taliban" in the South, arming them and shipping them to the North to create trouble for the Russian and the Chinese (hence the riots in China's Urumchi province), today in Iran, close to the Pakistani border another Taliban blew himself up killing some more 30 people in the process (contrary to what most people may think Iran and the Taliban, far from being allies, are in fact sworn enemies, as the Iranian are shites, while the Taliban are sunni fundamentalists and shites and sunnis have been killing each other in the region for centuries), the Iranian immediately accused the US and the UK of being behind the bombing, later on the leader of the Taliban group which claimed responsibility for  the bombing, admitted to being funded and armed by the US, basically most of the people we are currently labelling as Taliban were originally mercenary, fighting for the warlord who were prepared to offer then more money, how comes then that if this people are so easily bought, sold and manipulated, they represent such a terrible danger to Western civilisation, to the point that we need to take the fight to them or they will take the fight to us, in our city and all the rest of the bs, would the insurgency be such a problem in Afghanistan were it not for rampant corruption, most of public money being stolen, the police bullying, stealing and blackmailing civilians, and hardly a day goes by without 10-20 innocent civilians being killed in drones and other aerial attacks, imagine this happening in your neighbourhood, what is at the root of all this, is it not the fact that Defence is a trillion dollar industry, that this year Federal Defence budget is the largest in history (40% of which is spent in black ops and black research projects) and that to spend this kind of money on defence at a time when an increasing number of people are loosing their jobs and their homes, not only in the US, but all over the world, you needs some kind of Mickey Mouse war somewhere in the world to justify it

The British army has been relocating Taliban insurgents from southern Afghanistan to the north by providing transportation means, diplomats say.

The diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said insurgents are being airlifted from the southern province of Helmand to the north amid increasing violence in the northern parts of the country.

The aircraft used for the transfer have been identified as British Chinook helicopters.

The officials said Sultan Munadi, an Afghan interpreter who was kidnapped along with his employer, New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell, was killed by a “British sniper” as commandos executed a rescue operation to free Farrell.

They said Munadi was targeted for possessing documents and pictures pointing at the British military's involvement in the transfer operation.

The Afghan journalist also had evidence of the involvement of the foreign forces in Afghanistan in the tensions that rocked China's Xinjiang autonomous region in July, the diplomats said.

American forces have also invigorated the insurgency in the war-ravaged country by outfitting the Taliban with Russian-made weaponry used during the 1979-89 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, which was fought against by the Afghan Mujahedeen, the diplomats said.

The US forces are assumed to have gathered the armaments during a campaign to "collect weapons from irresponsible people," after the 2001 invasion.

Diplomats said Afghan Interior Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, a Pashtun who has received his higher education in the UK, was still operating under the British guidance.

The Interior Ministry is accused of enabling the provision of arms and ammunition for the north-based militants by the Pashtun police force.

Earlier in the week, Afghan President Hamid Karzai was quoted by the BBC Persian as having ordered an investigation into reports of 'unknown' army helicopters carrying gunmen to the north.

The Afghan president said based on unconfirmed reports, the helicopters have been taking gunmen to Baghlan, Kunduz and Samangan provinces overnight for about five months now.

In early 2008, Karzai expelled two British diplomats for allegedly planning to “turn” senior Taliban commanders. According to the Times Online, the British officials had sought to persuade militant chief Mullah Mansoor Dadullah to cooperate with the UK.

Afghanistan is currently witnessing the highest level of violence since the invasion, despite the presence of more than 100,000 foreign troops.

Manuel Zelaya Former Honduran President Describes Torture!

Towards the end of this broadcast, Manuel Zelaya the former president of Honduras who has taken asylum in the Brazilian embassy in his country, describes to Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! that he and his group there are being attacked with "microwave weapons" and sonic weapons.  The sonic weapons they knew about because they were used on the protesters in Pittsburgh at the G20 summit.  The microwave weapons, her and her co-host seemed unfamiliar with.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Long-secret security tapes showing the chaos immediately after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building are blank in the minutes before the blast and appear to have been edited, an attorney who obtained the recordings said Sunday.

    "The real story is what's missing," said Jesse Trentadue, a Salt Lake City attorney who obtained the recordings through the federal Freedom of Information Act as part of an unofficial inquiry he is conducting into the April 19, 1995, bombing that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.

    Trentadue gave copies of the tapes to The Oklahoman newspaper, which posted them online and provided copies to The Associated Press.

    The tapes turned over by the FBI came from security cameras various companies had mounted outside office buildings near the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. They are blank at points before 9:02 a.m., when a truck bomb carrying a 4,000-pound fertilizer-and-fuel-oil bomb detonated in front of the building, Trentadue said.

    "Four cameras in four different locations going blank at basically the same time on the morning of April 19, 1995. There ain't no such thing as a coincidence," Trentadue said.

    He said government officials claim the security cameras did not record the minutes before the bombing because "they had run out of tape" or "the tape was being replaced."

    "The interesting thing is they spring back on after 9:02," he said. "The absence of footage from these crucial time intervals is evidence that there is something there that the FBI doesn't want anybody to see."

Israel has received two German-made submarines which are capable of launching missiles equipped with nuclear warheads.

An Israeli military spokesman confirmed that the regime has received the two Dolphin-class submarines.

Israel ordered the submarines in 2005 and they were expected to be delivered in 2010.

Nuclear capable submarines are key weapons in Israel's arsenal.

With the delivery of the two subs the number of Israel's German-made submarines has reached five.

In an interview on NBC today, reports Politico.com, "Meet The Press" interviewer David Gregory asked Former US President Bill Clinton, "Your wife famously talked about the vast right wing conspiracy targeting you. As you look at this opposition on the right to President Obama, is it still there?"

Clinton answered in the affirmative; "Oh, you bet. Sure it is. It's not as strong as it was, because America has changed demographically. But it's as virulent as it was. I mean, they're saying things about him. You know, it's like when they accused me of murder, and all that stuff they did... Their agenda seems to be wanting him to fail."

Bill Clinton's mention of the political import of demographic changes likely referred to an analysis, popular in liberal think-tank circles, which projects that because much the GOP's base has been rooted among white European-Americans, Democratic Party fortunes will rise in coming decades as non-European minority groups, which historically have tended to vote for Democratic Party candidates, come to constitute an ever-larger share of the voting electorate.

But that analysis ignores aggressive efforts to move the American conservative movement past its latter 20th Century ties to race-based politics. While the 2008 election amounted to a resounding defeat for the GOP, a multi-ethnic constituency of Christian conservatives managed unexpected upset victories in Florida, Arizona, and California by passing resolutions against legalized gay marriage in those states.

Those victories suggest the rise of a new, non-aligned but decidedly right-leaning faction in American politics, the Rainbow Right.

Organized around an anti-gay marriage and anti-reproductive rights agenda and a Christian nationalist vision for America, the Rainbow Right reflects ground-level developments on the Christian right as a decade long push to make the movement more racially and ethnically inclusive is coming to fruition so that many churches on the Christian right, such as Texas megachurch pastor John Hagee's San Antonio Cornerstone Church, now boast an impressive level of ethnic and racial diversity.

Turkey wants UN body to discuss Gaza 'war crimes'

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday his country would push the Security Council to discuss a report by U.N. investigators accusing Israel and Palestinian militants of war crimes in the Gaza war.

"We will definitely take the position to discuss this issue on the Security Council," Erdogan told reporters.

A U.N. fact-finding mission led by South African jurist Richard Goldstone issued a report last week that said both the Israeli army and Palestinian militants had committed war crimes, and possibly crimes against humanity, during the December-January war in the Gaza Strip.

The report urged the Security Council to refer the allegations to the International Criminal Court in The Hague if either Israel or Palestinian authorities failed to investigate and prosecute those suspected of the crimes within six months.

Erdogan, who is in New York for the annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly, said through an interpreter there should be "accountability" for anyone guilty of war crimes in Gaza.

"We're in favor of opening discussions on the Goldstone report and whoever is the guilty party, they should be identified and face the necessary sanctions," he said.

Turkey joined the 15-nation Security Council as a temporary member in January and will have a seat until the end of 2010.

Both Israel and Hamas denied committing any war crimes. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the report of the Goldstone commission, which Israel refused to cooperate with, as a travesty.

Ankara's insistence on raising the issue in New York might annoy Washington. The United States has said the report should be discussed by the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, not the Security Council.

U.S. veto power in the Security Council makes it unlikely the body would take any action against Washington's ally Israel. But any serious discussion of the Goldstone report in New York could embarrass the Jewish state.

Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president, has reversed his decision to deploy missiles in the Baltic region of Kaliningrad in response to the US scrapping missile shield plans in Europe.

"When I first mentioned this idea, I said we would site Iskander missiles in response to the decision to implement the missile  shield," Medvedev told reporters on Friday after the G20 summit in the US city  of Pittsburgh.

 

"Since this decision has been cancelled, I naturally took the decision not to place Iskander missiles in the corresponding region of our country."

REPORTS FROM CALAIS AS POLICE EVICT THE JUNGLE MIGRANT CAMP (SCHNEWS)

“delighted”, the long predicted clearance of the migrant
camp in Calais (see SchNEWS 682, 684, 685) took place on Tuesday
(22nd). Around 500 French riot police moved into the
“jungle” at 7.30am, bulldozing tents and seizing the
migrants.

At dawn that morning the remaining migrants of the camp had gathered
around a fire where they waited for police with banners in English and
Pastu, one proclaiming: “We need shelter and protection. We want
asylum and peace. Jungle is our home”.

No Borders activists confronted the advancing police, at one stage
using a length of rope to form a human shield around a group of
frightened teens. The police cut the rope and rushed in, knocking the
activists and migrants to the ground, resulting in the dramatic
footage that graced the national press.

After the police had left, one activist described the scene:
“The Afghan-Pashtun jungle has been completely razed -
it’s like a road-building site.”

In total police arrested 278 migrants, 132 of them minors. Those of
them that have been released have described how police took away their
money, phones and clothes.

Although some have been sent as far away as Toulouse, a third of the
migrants have already been returned to the streets of Calais. They now
have no possessions, nothing to eat and nowhere to stay.

Classified McChrystal Report: 500,000 Troops Will Be Required Over Five Years in Afghanistan

Embedded in General Stanley McChrystal’s classified assessment of the war in Afghanistan is his conclusion that a successful counterinsurgency strategy will require 500,000 troops over five years.

Mitchell got the figure from an independent source. It was not revealed in the redacted version of the once classified report released by the Pentagon earlier this week. McChrystal has warned the administration that without an infusion of more troops the eight-year war in Afghanistan “will likely result in failure.”
